Taking The Christ Out Of Christmas

With All The Commercialization of Christmas, Christ Has Been Taken Out of the Celebration. What Can We As Believers Do To bring back the Christ-Mass Celebration?

I don't believe we can take Christ out of something he was never a part of. Christmas was (and still is) a pegan holiday or day of celebration. Besides when you really look at the scriptures Christ couldn't have been born on this day becuase the in Matt 2:7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

We have no idea as to the length of time that had passed between then and at that moment Herold inquired about the star. Also if you continue to read it states the the by the time the wise men found Christ he was a young boy and in the house (not the manger) with his mother. We must also be careful while in our joyful spirits not to disobey our God with these feel good images of him in the manger.

In Deuteronomy 5:8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth.

Obviously they were clelebrating this unto Christ with there decked out Christmas trees and Jeremiah tried to tell em' to stop.

Jeremiah: 10
"1": Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

"2": Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

"3": For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

"4": They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

"5": They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

"6": Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.

Like so much of the stuff believers are determing to make a part of christ even after he tells us not to. The first chapter of Isaiah really puts all perspective. Those ridicoulous days your pastors, bishops, prophets, elders, etc. deems as important, God wants to know who hath required this at your hand.

I believe before we continue to put Christ in something we should search his word to for an understanding and to know whether he wants to be a part of it at all.

Personally, because I can't get around the Christmas season, like last yeart, I just celebrate it as a time of giving. And will celebrate only what Christ celebrated: Weddings and the Passover...And the passover doen'st have a pictular day...It's everyday I wake. I find myself asking "me" this one question: Are we (believers) really moving forward or are we (like the children of Isreal) making this big cirlce year after year?

I'm truely down for learning more and if (in the sctriputres) one can find where this is correct and not just something the pegans gave to the believers...Please let me know.

Much Love,
Konda

I personally feel that there is noting wrong with a universal day of celebration of our Lord and Savior Jesus. With all the many meaningless celebrations going on many which you describe the one true celebration should be that of the birth of the Christ whom according to to the word of God, it actually states that Jesus was in a manger and His birth was celebrated, it's more then an image. Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now Jesus' birth was celebrated according to Luke 2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" We should celebrate it to the fullest daily however this one day universal day of celebration should be done going all reverence unto the Lord, all people should be taught the true meaning of Christ-Mas and then let folk chose if they want to continue in the celebration of our Lord and Savior or not.

In Deuteronomy 5:8 & 7:4 the description giving was as follows,

4:For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the Lord will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly. 5 But thus you shall deal with them: you shall destroy their altars, and break down their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images, and burn their carved images with fire

I don't know anyone who bows down to the Christmas tree and as far as I am concern it simply represents the trees in the manager, which we can leave off for sure however Jeremiah 10:1 Is describing a doctrine of worship unto a image that was derived from a tree that they worship, It is not the Christ that the pagans celebrated, after all why would the gentiles celebrate the Christ that is Jesus when they had not come into salvation yet? (Acts)

Christmas should be used to teach others about the birth of Jesus. we can do that by just doing it. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19. Maybe instead of going to church we should go out and wittiness, sing praises, and spread the godly love. Come out of the building, out of the comfort of our homes opening up presents and eating and take it to the street and give, give, give. Give the word, the hope of the return of the Christ and how those who believe and receive and meet Him when He comes.

Love You All

My response will be kinda of lengthy, in order to give as much detail as I can, so please bear with me. I spend a great deal of time studying history and the culture of Ancient Israel and other religions and forms of pagan worship for better knowledge and understanding of the bible. And also, so when I come in contact with other religions, I know how to shut them down with God's word by understanding what their doctrine is based on.I am in total agreement with sister Konda...... This is my reason why....History records the greatest influence to man outside the Bible, was Sun worship. In the bible, Sun worship is called Baal. (I Kings 16:31) The term Baal is the highest name the pagan gave his god. It meant or means Lord or Master. The pagan Babylonians and other ancient nations usually traced the origin of their nation to their chief deity. Not in all, but in most cases the sun was the main deity of the Old and New Worlds. He was usually considered to be a ancestor god of the Royal family and his worship was imposed on conquered nations. Their earthly kings pretended to be the incarnate of their Baal, and to connect themselves with Baal, the kings, to show their earthly authority, claimed their god's name; for example "Ethbaal," who was Jezebel's father , king of the Zidonians. (I Kings 16:31) Now Ethbaal mean with Baal or Baal's man." Pagans also named their towns and cities after Baal as in (Number 32:38 Baalmelon -"Lord of the Habitation and Baalhamon as in (Song of Solomon 8:11 -"Lord of Habitation.") There was also a female entity called Beltis or Baalath. In Joshua 19:8 she is called " Baalathbeer - "Lady of the Well." Baalath's son was "Baalberith -"Lord of the Covenant," and the Israelites worshiped him in their apostasy (Judges 8:33). Pls. stay with me, I am getting to Christmas but I would like to give you some background first.Baalzebub or Beelzebub means: "Lord of the Fly or the Restless one." This is the chief name of Satan. In Isaiah 14:4-26, Satan's first seat after the flood was in Babylon, as satan moves from place to place, finding no rest, his system of pagan worship has moved from place to place. In Ezekiel 28:1-19, satan moved to Tyrus; in Revelation 2:13, satan's seat was in Pergamos. In these last days, if you hunger after truth and righteousness, you know where Satan's seat is today (In the CHURCH).... Now in Sun worship, two very important festivals were observed by most pagans throughout the wolrd. They were held two times in the year when the sun was at its greatest distance from the equator. I'm not gonna go into details about the rituals themselves, but it's the dates that are important. If you have studied ecology or Astronomy, you know that these days are known as the Winter and Summer solstice. To the pagan sun worshiper, the shortest day of the year was the day the sun god was reborn, and Nativity of the Sun fell on December 25th. Now we know that satan is the master of deception. Jesus warned us that his delusions and deceptions would become so strong that if it were possible......(Matt. 24:24) Remember how satan deceived Eve. He took the truth and put his own spin on it and without realizing it, she sinned. Without realizing it Satan has us worshiping the SUN god and not the SON of God.Let's continue... In Babylonia and Assyrian pagan worship theory, Nimrod died in his prime leaving a queen named Semiramis. According to Babylonian and Assyrian belief, at his death, Nimrod became immortal, and his spirit flew up to the sun and took possession of it. Then he became Beelsaman, "Lord of Heaven." Oh it gets better. After He became immortal, his wife claiming to be a virgin became pregnant, and begot a child by Nimrod's spirit coming down on her from the SON and the god child was called Tammuz (Ezekiel 8:9-16) and he was born on December 25th. Tammuz has and can be traced back to the origin of other pagan heroes scuh as, Adonis, Osiris, Hercules and Krishna Oh my God the story of Krishna is something yall should truly read when you get time. It is off the hook. They teach this stuff in religion classes at the university level. I see why so many young people don't believe in God or are confused about his existen. Anyway, (Look them up when you get a chance) Genesis 11:9 gives account of the first Ziggurat (tower) built by Nimrod's supervision in defiance to God.When you compare the bible with pagan history and mythology, 1 you can see why God was dead set against the children of Israel following the ways of these other nations, and exactly who these other gods were, which brings understanding to why God would say that I am the Lord God , and you shall have no other gods before me and to stay away from pagans and their rituals. These things did exist - just as there are other spirits in the world which caused God to make it clear that we are to ask for the Holy Spirit/Ghost.If we take time to study history and the word, you can see how most of our cherished tradition and ordinances kept by the church and society have their origin from SUN worship, such as Sunday Sacredness, Christmas, the Christmas tree, Easter, the Easter Egg, and bunny, hot cross buns and Good Friday. These are not holy days and ordinances to be kept sacred from the Bible; but were sacred to the ancient Babylonian gods: Nimrod (Baal) 1 Kings 16:30-33, Semiramis (Ashtaroth) Judges 2:10-14, and Tammuz (Adonis) Ezekiel 8:14 The mixture of Sun worship and true worship of God brought judgment on the Israelites during their apostasy. These rituals to the heathen trinity were observed centuries before the birth of Jesus in Babylon, Persia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Scandinavia and other places in the world. When the Lord brought the children out of Egypt he commanded Moses to tell them not to keep the ordinances of the land of Egypt or the lands that he would bring them to. (Leviticus 18:1-3). It still gets better..... The short skinny on this part is that when Nimrods wife died, the pagans believed that she became the moon Goddess, the mother of Heaven, the queen Goddess, and when her god-child Tammuz died like his parents, he also became immortal and took over the brightest lights in the sky (Venus) the East Star. Now check this out...Ishtar the war goddess is also identified with the east star. It was the home of the god of Vegetation of the Semitic people who were known as Athtar or (Moabite) . This is important because during the Jewish Passover Festival, which was held at the same time as the pagan festival, the Jews were commanded to eat the passover lamb. Exodus 12:1-51, Leviticus 23:5) Just as the Jews celebrated the passover, these pagans around them (moabites) had their New Year festival... (I didn't really give any info. on this festival) but it was and still is known today as Holy Week, the time of the resurrection of the dead Vegetation God, who died in the Autumn and came back to life in the spring.Cahna-Bal was a priest of Baal. The preists of Baal sacrificed humans -- most of whom were little children. Everything from cannibalism, sacred prostitution, rape, incest, homosexuality, murder, lying, stealing, self-emasculation, and suicide these gods did. This is where the word Cannibalism comes from. Here is who accepted the heathen sacrifices (Psalm 106:28, 35-40)Numbers (25:1-15) Pls. read this scripture...It's the children of Israel AGAIN.Almost done yall.... Christmas tree, Yuletide, mistletoe --- These things have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BIRTH OF CHRIST but everything to do with the celebration of the birth of the child-god Tammuz. There is not one single scriptural evidence that places the birth of Jesus on December 25th, but history says that December 25th was kept thousand of years before the birth of Christ in honor of the pagan Messiah. Another name for Tammuz was Baal-beereth, which means: "LORD OF THE FIR TREE." The babylonias believed that the god child and his mother were mystically turned into trees. This is the origin of burning the yule log (another detailed pagan ritual). Nimrod the SUN god was also symbolized by a Fir Tree stripped of all it's branches to symbolize him being cut down in the prime of his life. His death was to be avenged by the birth of his son Tammuz, who was born on the winter solstice December 25. It was further believed that the "Great" serpent twisted itself around the stripped/dead tree of Nimrod and it came to life again, and sprouted a different kind of root -- Tammuz -- hence "evergreen" - and that it could never be destroyed by hostile powers again, and the heathens would hang the heads of their enemies from their sacred tree. (Hence the ornaments and decorations of the tree) The word Yule is Chaldee for little child or childs day, and the mistltoe has another history not unto God.So you see it is not harmless to celebrate these pagan holiday because in the realm of oversight and ignorance, even the believers can and will fall prey - it was an offense to God in the biblical day, and it still is. (Not calling anyone ingnorant)....Yes the heavens and multitude of Angels did celebrate the birth of Christ, but nowhere in the bible does it say that we were to continue that tradition. I believe that we are to show our love for Jesus by keeping his commandments not by keeping unbiblically based traditions. And isn't just like satan to have us honoring His life (Jesus), when it was his DEATH that saved us.Love Sister CathyI have been trying for years to break away from all of these traditions -- but it's kinda of hard when you have small children. Can anyone give me a word about that. For two years, I didn't put up a tree or celebrate at all -- but I received so much flack and pressure from my family and pastor that I caved in.

Sista Cathy, I have read all that you have said and first let me say that for whatever reason the pagans may have came up with the dated for their celebration (because like I stated they devil wouldn't fool us into celebrating Jesus) I am not fooled in who I worship and celebrate and that is Jesus, you see as you explained there are many days that represent many pagan beliefs however you can not mistake the reason why I sing, the reason why I praise, the reason why I will forever be celebrating the birth, death and resurrection and that reason is Jesus. Thanks for the education, Love you.

Hi Everyone, Good question. One thing that I am doing this year with my children is directing them to use thier gifts to give to each other and anyone they desire to bless. I am limiting the number of gifts I am buying for my children and we are going to give back in our local communities this year. My five year old daughter was so entrenched by the "getting" of commericalized Christmas that she made me take a better approach to celebrating the birth of our Savior.

From a southern sista:

In my daily living, everyday is a day that satan and the Lord exist. Everyday I choose whom I will serve. I choose Jesus on Dec. 25 and everyday before and after that date. I give whenever I see a need that I can provide. I won't allow anyone to stop me from giving anyday. This world can call this day anything they want, I will just serve my Savior everyday! This is a day that the Lord have made I will rejoice in it!

Loving and giving everyday!
